Sacred Craft

Dino and I strolled though the halls of the latest Sacred Craft show in San Diego. This year there were fewer of the smaller shapers but there was still plenty of beautiful boards to look at.

Simon Anderson, the man who busted the mold with his version of the 3 Fin thruster was the honarary shaper. His contribution to the design of the surfboard is truly groundbreaking. He perfected the thruster, was the first to place 3 equal size fins on the board and then blew peoples minds at 15 foot Bells on one of his creations…..the rules changed.

Hydrodynamica had some interesting boards on display as well. Symetrical shapes, Mini-Simmons etc…

Firewiresurfboards introduced an online custom shaping tool. Yes, you and I get to now order our own custom Firewire surfboard. A very impressive 3D modeling CAD software at your finger-tips that allows you to take full advantage of Firewire’s technology and get your own shape.

One of my favorites….My first quad fin circa 1988 was a Stussy. The coolest boards ever at that time….Well, Shawn is back with SDouble and they are still incredible looking. I’ll take 3 please.

Lets not forget the roots and soul of the the craft. Mickey Munoz, fresh out of the shaping bay
